30 Years Online
A digital archaeology project: 1994 → Present
yow.com is Born
December 1994: The Internet was in its infancy. I registered yow.com, claiming a small piece of digital real estate that would remain under my control for decades to come.
The Early Web
Built my first website. Dial-up modems, 14.4kbps connections, and the excitement of discovering a new world. Netscape Navigator was king.
Dot-Com Era
Survived the dot-com bubble burst while thousands of .com domains vanished. yow.com remained - a constant in a sea of change.
Web 2.0 Revolution
The rise of social media, blogs, and user-generated content. YouTube launched, Facebook opened to the public, and the internet became interactive.
Mobile Transformation
Smartphones became ubiquitous. The internet moved from desktops to pockets. Apps replaced websites for many users.
Infrastructure Evolution
Started building serious home infrastructure. Virtualization, containers, and the beginning of my journey into self-hosting.
AI Revolution
ChatGPT and the AI explosion. Large language models went mainstream. I started experimenting with local AI inference and automation.
30+ Years Strong
Today: Still building, still learning, and committed to keeping yow.com alive for the next decade.
What's Next?
The internet will keep evolving. AI, decentralization, new frontiers. Whatever comes next, yow.com will be here - documenting, adapting, surviving.
Have your own internet origin story? I'd love to hear it.
